The win serves as an exclamation point on the former Dancing with the Stars champ's recent acquittal of federal tax evasion charges that could have sent his career to the pits for good. A jury acquitted Castroneves of most of the charges against him last month, saving him from a six-year prison sentence. The remaining count was dismissed last Friday, according to The Associated Press.
"This is the best month of May ever," Castroneves said in tears after the race in Victory Lane. "Thank you for giving my life back," he said to his racing team owner Roger Penske during a hug.
With the win, Castroneves is one Indy win from joining racing elites A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears as the only to win the iconic race four times. Is breaking the record on Castroneves' mind?
